The New Rochelle Council on the Arts sent along some charming photos of their recent fundraising event, a series of a dozen theme dinner parties held in private homes around New Rochelle. Guests dined from 7 to 9 p.m., then returned to the Wykagyl Country Club for dessert and an evening of cabaret performances by David and Paul Rigano with Esjae, and Julia Breanetta Simpson.
Here’s a description of one: “At the studio of ceramic artist Judith Weber the theme was Mexico, with Frida Kahlo as the inspiration for “Frida’s Fantastica Fiesta”. Weber and her co-host, collage artist Nancy Egol Nikkal, painted colorful murals to decorate the space and served up traditional fare on hand-made
ceramic dishes decorated with the vibrant designs of Mexico. The menu ranged from assorted tostadas, Ensalada de Nopales and Ceviche, to home-made tamales, Lime and Thyme Chicken with Chorizo, Chilles Rellenos and, of course, Black Beans and Rice. Wines, Mexican beer and the traditional drink Agua de Horchata was enjoyed by all, and guests took home souvenir ceramic plates especially created for the evening by the host.” Other themes included Italian, Greek and New Orleans cuisine.
