Help available for New Ro residents
Two programs have been launched to help New Rochelle residents stay in and improve their homes. Here’s a description:
• City residents facing eviction due to unemployment or loss of income may be eligible for temporary rent assistance. The Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program is available to New Rochelle tenants who lost employment but have a history of housing stability and the potential to become self-sufficient within 18 months or less. The program is federally funded and is coordinated through HOPE Community Services, Inc. of New Rochelle. For more information, call 914-355-5234 or email hopehousinghelpinc@gmail.com.
• City homeowners may be eligible for funding for home repairs through a new program called Residential Rehabilitation Program. Qualifying low-income residents can apply for financial aid for repairs in the areas of heating, plumbing, windows, exterior doors, roofing and electrical. The program is funded through a grant of HOME Investment Partnerships Program from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. The program is designed to preserve home ownership and stabilize property values in the city, officials said. For a brochure and application, visit www.newrochelleny.com or call 914-654-2023.
