Pelham rowers at home on the Sound

Posted by: Hannan Adely - Posted in Uncategorized on Nov 16, 2009

I was lucky to land an assignment writing about the Pelham Community Rowing Association, which I reported from a boat on the Long Island Sound on a recent Thursday morning. Not a bad way to spend the work day.

I hung out with Coach Ellis Evans-Brown as he trailed his rowers from his class, who were preparing for an upcoming 2,000-meter race.  The rowers, who span all ages, row out of Glen Island Park in New Rochelle and have built a new boathouse there. The story can be found here: Rowing club for all ages grows in Pelham

I have posted two video clips below. In the first, Evans-Brown talks about the meaning of community rowing. In the second clip, Mieke Dikkers (in the green shirt) rows with Patty O’Connor, Jean Ippolito and Ann Marie Pitkin behind her in the boat.
