Feud continues over Mam’k village attorney
There’s been a lot of chatter in the village of Mamaroneck after mayor elect Norm Rosenblum’s decided to drop village attorney Janet Insardi and replace her with Christie Derrico, the wife of a Republican Party chair.
Democrats on the village board last week said they were upset because Rosenblum made the decision without talking to the board or the public. Today their outrage continued because apparently the village cut off Insardi’s email access even though she still technically works for the village.
UPDATE: Insardi’s email has been restored.
“Action to terminate by the incoming board can only legally take place at a publicy noticed meeting,” trustee John Hofstetter said in an e-mail today to other village officials. ” As you know that action has not taken place yet. The attorney is currently doing her best to help make the transition as smooth as possible in spite the roadblocks that are continually thrown in her way.”
Insardi’s termination was supposed to take place later tonight during the village’s annual organizational meeting, where Rosenblum will be sworn in as mayor. Village manager Richard Slingerland said the email cutoff was a “misunderstanding.”
“Her e-mail is not supposed to be shut off until after the end of business today,” he said in an email back to Hofstetter.”…It seems that our computer services contractor prematurely shut off her e-mail , when it was supposed to happen tomorrow, or at least after the end of business today. This entire issue was due to a misunderstanding by our contractor.”
The village’s organizational meeting will take place today at the Emelin Theater in Mamaroneck at 7:30 p.m. Should be fun (for nerds like me at least).

And how, one wonders, did Insardi get the job originally – a star rose in the East, or through the very same political maneuvering everyone suddenly finds reason to complain about?
The job was posted in the New York Law Journal and the Village had approximately 40 applicants for the post. No political maneuvering there….and no one can say she is a political hack.
I was a Trustee when Ms. Insardi was hired. We interviewed her and 4 other attorneys who we chose out of almost 40 resumes. She was highly qualified, articulate and knowledgeable about all aspects of municipal law. No one on the Board at that time had ever met Ms. Insardi before we interviewed her. To say that she was a “political” pick is just a bold face lie.
I had always envisioned the full time Village Attorney position to be a non-political post that would transcend electoral vagaries but politics is back in play in the Village of Mamaroneck!
Well, what is her Party affiliation? And, “politics is BACK in play in the Village of Mamaroneck?” That one’s worthy of Letterman.
Party affiliation was not part of the job description…but it apparently is now. And Derrico’s ties to the party enabled her to be selected from a field of one. Not the best thing for the Village.
The Truth Shall Set Us Free asks, “Well, what is her Party affiliation?”
Isn’t the fact that you do know a clear indication that it played no role in her hiring – unlike her firing?
