Harrison lowers fine for leaves in the street
After a brouhaha erupted in November over residents getting slapped with a $250 fines for leaves in the street in front of their homes, the town board lowered the fine Thursday night.

The Town Board unanimously approved amending the town’s rubbish law and chopping the fine for leaves in the street down to $50.
The town ordinance deals with dangerous street obstructions, including trash, yard trimmings and branches and leaves. Town officials had said large piles of leaves last fall made it difficult to see the pavement on some streets, leading to the police ticketing dozens of residents.
A heated dispute over the leaf fines reached its height in December when the Harrison PBA president released voicemails of Supervisor Joan Walsh ordering police officers not to enforce the town ordinance.
Walsh had criticized the department for suddenly enforcing the obscure law, calling it “outrageous.”

this is what happends when towns don’t enforce their laws on a consistant basis. If they did they wouldn’t have to suddenly compremise. Note to towns and cities, enforce the law or take it off the books.
