“Unofficial Mayor” contest: Question 1
Sure, trying new places is fun, but everybody has their go-to spots for certain reasons. Whether it’s a favorite bartender, the to-die-for dessert, the atmosphere for a special occasion, or the great deals on chicken wings, our favorite haunts are the places we go to again and again.
What are your five favorite places to eat out or have a cocktail in your community. Don’t just name them, tell us why!
The contest response period ends at noon.
(If you’re hearing about this contest for the first time, hurry and read the rules and details here.)

Greetings from Larchmont, home to more restaurants per capita than any town in Westchester (or at least it seems that way!). Five faves? Only five?! Mon dieu! This is going to be tough, but let’s give it a shot.
Let’s start with breakfast. On Saturday mornings you will find me at Stanz, a quaint café that serves amazing omelettes (and freshly-made sandwiches). Linda takes my usual order: a ham and brie omelette with seven-grain toast and fresh fruit on the side. If owner Steve has chocolate chips on hand, I’ll have him make chocolate chip pancakes to share with my hubby. Yum. Get there early. By late morning the lines are long.
For lunch, we’re headed to The Larchmont Tavern or “The L.T.” as locals commonly know it. It’s been around since 1933 and it’s Larchmont’s version of Cheers. The signature salad, “Gorgonzola Salad” is a must order. The burgers are good, but I prefer their “meatball parm” sandwich. Good comfort food. As a side note, if you need some chicken wings for your next Super Bowl party, have Chris make them with the hot sauce on the side. Warm them up in your oven with the fresh hot sauce and they’ll come out tasting perfecto!
Dinner. Hmmm…French or Italian? Let’s start with French. Since the French-American school located here in Larchmont, French families have contributed wine, cheese and fabulous French food to the community. I particularly enjoy Pascal’s Restaurant where Chef Fabrice whips up a traditional French onion soup with a rich, flavorful broth and plentiful cheese cascading over the bowl. I also recommend his pork dish stuffed with prunes. I’m not a prune fan, but our waiter Angel convinced me to try it. Delish.
Larchmont has many fine Italian restaurants, but if I am in the mood to splurge, I am going to La Villetta. The little box of a restaurant doesn’t look like much from the outside, but superior food awaits behind those doors. While Joe pours me a glass of Chianti, Chef Pasquale prepares my absolute favorite appetizer: warm, buttery garlic artichoke hearts. To die for! I also enjoy the fresh gnocchi with red sauce, and you can’t go wrong with the signature dessert: Profiteroles accompanied with a gravy dish filled with dark chocolate for drizzling.
And finally, if you’re in a rush and just want to grab a slice, Leonardo’s Pizzeria is the place to be. Owner Salvatore’s pizza with a tangy tomato sauce, ample mozzarella cheese and superb crust is a winner!
Lynda, you’ve made me so hungry after that post! Thanks so much. I’m very familiar with the LT, but not the other places. Now I’ve got new places to try.
