One candidate listed for Mamaroneck superintendent

Posted by: Aman Ali - Posted in Mamaroneck on Mar 16, 2010

Hastings-on-Hudson Superintendent Robert Shaps has informed his school district he is a finalist to replace Paul Fried as head of the Mamaroneck School district. Robert Shaps1

I’m waiting on Mamaroneck’s Board of Ed to confirm this, but this e-mail has gone out to Hastings-on-Hudson parents confirming the news:

To the Hastings-on-Hudson Community. We want to let everyone know that Superintendent Shaps has informed the Board of Education that he has been recruited and is a finalist for the position of Superintendent of the Mamaroneck School District. This potential change is coming at a critical time for Hastings. Whatever the outcome, the Board is committed to working in collaboration with the District’s administration, faculty and staff, and the community at large as we navigate through this challenging budget season. We have tremendous respect for the work Dr. Shaps has done in his four years here in Hastings, reining in the budget while fighting for high quality education, and appreciate his continued dedication to our District. While we hope Dr. Shaps will choose to stay in Hastings, the Board has begun to consider the possible options, including an Interim Superintendent, should he leave at the end of this school year. We will keep you informed as our discussions progress during the process.

UPDATE: Board of Education President Linnet Tse confirmed Shaps is a finalist, but emphasized the board hasn’t completed its search process and is looking at other candidates, whom she declined to disclose.
