Rye officer injured in car accident

Posted by: Leslie Korngold - Posted in Police & Fire, Rye on May 12, 2010

A 10-year veteran of the Rye police department is off duty for a couple of weeks due to injuries sustained in a car accident Monday.

Officer Angelina Santo’s cruiser was stopped at a red light on the Boston Post Road and Purdy Avenue in the left turn lane when it was struck from behind by a Lexus RX330, a small suburban utility vehicle, and shoved into the intersection around 3:50 p.m., police said.

The officer was treated at Greenwich Hospital for back and neck pain and released.

The SUV driver, Andrew Singer, 43, of Scarsdale, was not injured. Police said the accident report has not been completed, but there is no indication that Singer was ticketed at the scene.

The cruiser’s right rear bumper was pushed in, and should be reparable, police said.

Santo is expected to be out of work for a couple of weeks, police said. She is expected to be married in several weeks, police said.
