First school in Rye gets solar panels
Resurrection School in Rye is now the first school in the city to use solar power for electricity. One hundred twenty-three solar panels will generate 30 percent of the school’s annual electricity and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 49,390 pounds a year. That’s equal to recycling 480,000 cans of soda.
A grant from The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and Mercury Solar Systems, which installed the panels, funded the 24.6 kilowatt solar energy system. The panels were unveiled Thursday.
