Mamaroneck village attorney won’t step down while running for judge
Mamaroneck village attorney Christie Derrico will be a Republican candidate for village justice this fall and Monday she said she won’t quit her current village job while she runs for another.
“I don’t have a conflict here,” she said. “The answer to your question is absolutely no.”
Derrico was responding to a question asked by Democratic trustee John Hofstetter during the village’s regular work session Monday. As you recall, Mayor Norm Rosenblum first appointed Derrico to the village attorney spot when he took office in December, but was heavily criticized for how he went about doing it.
Hofstetter is running for re-election this fall. Rosenblum asked Hofstetter with that kind of reasoning, why doesn’t the Democratic trustee step down during his re-election bid. Rosenblum added even if Derrico wanted to step down, he wouldn’t accept her resignation under those circumstances.
Derrico’s hiring is still being criticized by Hofstetter and fellow democratic trustee Toni Ryan. The village spent around 45 minutes Monday debating whether or not it needs outside counsel for legal issues in case Derrico’s impartiality comes into question. Don’t expect “attorneygate” to die down anytime soon.
