As Will David and Shawn Cohen have been reporting today on LoHud.com, New Rochelle police have charged the father of a 2-year-old boy who died Sunday morning with second-degree murder. Richard Leak, 30, was arrested about 9:30 last night after questioning by detectives. He was arraigned before City Judge Gail Rice this morning.
At a police news conference later in the morning, Detective Capt. Joseph Schaller said the medical examiner had determined that Leak’s son, Khalil, had a fracture to the back of the head and several broken ribs, and believes the boy was slammed against a hard surface.
“We believe he caused the death of the child,” Schaller said, adding that there is evidence of previous abuse.
