Port Chester High School students see dangers of texting while driving

Posted by: Leah Rae - Posted in Police & Fire, Port Chester, Public Safety, Rye Brook, Rye Town, Schools on Oct 18, 2011

Port Chester High School students are signing an “X the TXT” pledge with their thumbprints this week in a safety campaign against texting while driving.

Allstate is promoting the safety message nationwide. Little plastic thumb-bands given out to pledge-takers were a hot item that seemed to be going “viral,” with students seeking them out. They have the words TXTNG KLLS.

Locally, Open Door school-based health centers, the Port Chester Community Cares Coalition and the Fresh Green Light driving school teamed up on the campaign. A similar program was held in Rye.

A school assembly, scheduled for yesterday and today, includes a very compelling documentary from AT&T called “The Last Text.” It looks at the devastating consequences of typing a text while behind the wheel. You can watch it here.
