Mamaroneck, N.Y., March 16, 2012 – On Tuesday March 20, 2012, the Mamaroneck High School Red Cross Club will organize a Red Cross flag-raising ceremony at the Town of Mamaroneck Center in recognition of Red Cross Month and the partnership between the American Red Cross and the local Larchmont-Mamaroneck Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) during Hurricane Irene.

About the Mamaroneck High School Red Cross Club:
Founded in 2008, the Mamaroneck High School Red Cross Club has approximately 25 active Club members. Led by Club President, Eli Russ (17), the club plays an active role in the community. Their work consists of the following:
· providing assistance to individuals affected by disaster at local shelters,
· supporting soldiers overseas by writing Christmas and Valentine’s Day cards,
· assisting in the organization of local blood drives,
· and much more.
CERT educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
