Over the last three years, customers at the Larchmont-based needlepoint store Stitch by Stitch have been creating the “Patchwork of Peace,” a needlepoint sampler consisting of 247 squares with all different stitches.
Owner Betty Scanlon says it started with a small class and quickly grew with 20 completed flags and many more still in the works. The 35 pieces of needlepoint depicting the nation’s flags have been created by people throughout the county and include 20 flags and 15 patriotic pieces. The artists range in age from 8 to 80.

The art will be on display at the Oresman Gallery, Larchmont Public Library, throughout June.
On June 7, an artists’ reception will be held at the library from 6:30 – 8 p.m.
The inspiration for the exhibit entitled “Come Celebrate Our Flag” are Flag day (June 14) July 4, said Scanlon.
