At a school assembly yesterday, Osborn Elementary School students gave The New York Foundling 200 new duffel bags for children in foster care.
Students in grades K-5 raised more than $6,000 to purchase the luggage for The Foundling’s “Cases for Kids” campaign, a luggage drive that coincided with Foster Care Awareness Month (May 2012). The luggage helps children in foster care feel more comfortable and move with dignity during an already difficult time.

Osborn students raised the money through bake sales and doing extra chores; one child donated his first communion money.
The New York Foundling is one of New York City’s largest and oldest family service agencies dedicated to saving children, preserving families and building communities.
“Osborn Elementary School in Rye went above and beyond our expectations,” a Foundling spokeswoman said. “The Foundling helps more than 1,000 kids in foster care at any given time. Our goal is to collect 1,000 pieces of luggage so that every child will have a brand new suitcase.”
