This year. Swim Across America will celebrate its 20th anniversary. The event will have 1000 swimmers on hand in nine different locations.
Here’s news from Swim Across America of Long Island Sound (SAALIS):
Over the twenty year span of raising awareness and funds, SAALIS has collected more than $12,000,000. In 2011 alone, $1,200,000 was donated. With nine different dates and locations offered this year, with events from June 30 to August 4, there’s “a swim date for everyone”. All event dates and locations are shown below.
Proceeds from these swims go to the Cancer Support Team serving Westchester County, the Tommy Palazzo Fellowship at Columbia University, the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian Medical Center, the DeMatteo Research and Swim Across America Laboratories at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Thanks to our support, in 2011, the Swim Across America Lab, introduced a new and successful, breakthrough drug therapy named Yervoy.
Yervoy is for the treatment of advanced Melanoma. This breakthrough is truly a profound and meaningful reward for the long term investment SAALIS has made on behalf of the cancer patients it serves. Through the generosity, energy and commitment of doctors and researchers plus our swimmers, sponsors, donors and volunteers, this important milestone was achieved. These organizations clearly demonstrate their skill in providing vital research and effective treatments and services which, one day, will conquer cancer.
