Highlights magazine, the longtime favorite periodical of children (and their parents), has published a poem by Mamaroneck resident Alexander Musicus, a second-grader at Daniel Warren Elementary School.
The 7-year-old’s poem, “The Ocean,” appears in the August 2012 issue of Highlights for Children. It was chosen from a heap of submissions; the magazine receives more than 35,000 submissions from readers per year.
According to a press release, Musicus enjoys sports and building model volcanoes. He hopes to work as a builder when he grows up. His poem appears below the fold. Congratulations, Alex!
“The Ocean” by Alexander Musicus
Ocean flat
totally wavy
textured
up and down.
Coming and going
going and coming.
Some colors like
green
and yellow
and a little black.
And animals—there are some whales
in the ocean,
and sharks live
kind of deep.
And there are coral reefs.
If you touch the coral reef
the reef
the reef
it might disappear
when you swim away.
