The long awaited regional event of the year is back… Port Chester Fest.
On August 4th, about 2,500 Sound Shore residents are expected to attend the community festivity that celebrates Port Chester’s melting pot through cultural art, music and workshops.
Art and workshops will be available for children all of ages to explore their artistic side while learning about different cultures. Family workshops include: the Clay Art Center, international face-painting with Miguel Cossio, Community Art with Tova Snyder, Westchester Children’s Museum, Rye Arts Center, Printmaking, Open Door Recess Rocks, the Rye Nature Center and more.
Get ready to sing and dance through the world. The 2012 lineup includes: the Calpulli Mexican Dance Company, Italian classical performances by Malena Dayen, Bolivian sensation Markax Laiku Bolivia with carnival dancers, Capoeira with Mestre Bom Jesus, local R&B star Curtis Winchester, the Bethesda Baptist Church Intergenerational Choir, a zumba fitness party and a multicultural fashion show starring local families.
This year, Port Chester Fest will be combined with the Port Chester Community Health Fair. The Health Fair offers free health screening including blood pressure, BMI, HIV, vision, podiatry and other medical services. A teddy bear clinic will be available for children to bring their stuffed animals. Health organizations will provide expert information on bicycle safety, skin care, back pain and other physical concerns. Physical activities for both adults and children will also be promoted. Twenty-five community service organizations and local programs will be present as well.
A number of local and regional leaders will also be in attendance at the Fest and Health Fair including: Port Chester Mayor Dennis Pilla, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, Congresswoman Nita Lowey, NYS Senators George Latimer and Suzi Oppenheimer as well as others.
PC Fest will run from 12 – 6 PM and the PC Health Fair will run 10 AM – 2 PM on 120 Purdy Ave (between Don Bosco Pl. and Grace Church St.)
Port Chester Fest is sponsored by the United Way of Westchester and Putnam, the Helen Andrus Benedict Foundation, ArtsWestchester, NYS Council of the Arts, the Don Bosco Community Center, Saving our Society, Stop&Shop, the Village of Port Chester and Doral Arrowwood.
