The Higher Education Candidate Forum at Purchase College will host state Senate candidates Bob Cohen and George Latimer for the 37th district Assembly candidates Bob Castelli and David Buchwald for the 93rd district.
Here’s a statement from the forum and details of the event:
The Great Recession of 2008 devastated both public and private higher education institutions across the nation. The ongoing fiscal crisis has lessened the amount of aid available to institutions and students, further pushing up the costs associated with going to college, and consequently pricing some students out of higher education while driving up student loan debt to an alarming $1 trillion.
As part of the effort to educate voters on the issues regarding higher education and to examine the positions of those who will be making decisions on our behalf, NYPIRG along with the Purchase College community will be holding an event at the Dance Theater Lab (Dance 0029). In addition to NYPIRG professionals and Purchase College students, all candidates running for state legislature seats have been invited to participate to let voters know their views and ideas on higher education. NYPIRG is strictly non-partisan.
Candidates for NYS Senate district 37 and NYS Assembly district 93 confirmed that they will be attending.
