HARRISON – The former Journal News building, which was recently purchased by Lifetime Fitness,  fetched $12 million, according to county records.

Although the price had not been disclosed by either company when the deal was closed in September, it has become available through the New York State Office of Real Property Services, which processes deed transactions.

The deed can be found by searching The Journal News real estate database [1] on LoHud.com. It has all major deals through September, including the recent purchase of a Yonkers assisted living facility that went for just under $100 million.

The Journal News building has been a big story over the past couple years because it has been the headquarters of the newspaper since 1973. Sitting on a 22.4-acre property atop Harrison’s Gannett Drive, the building was more than 30,000 square feet and once held more than 500 employees.

It is being demolished by Lifetime  to make room for a large recreation and lifestyle center that will be one of the national company’s premier locations in the Northeast. The project has been given county tax incentives.

Meanwhile, The Journal News and its website LoHud.com - subsidiaries of the Gannett newspaper company - have been relocated to 1133 Westchester Ave. in White Plains.
