December 12, 2012
12.12.12: The Twelve Days of Christmas: A Standard Flower Show
The Garden Club of New Rochelle, Inc. is pleased to be holding its annual December Flower Show
on Wednesday, December 12, 2-3:30 p.m. at The Elks Lodge, 19 The Boulevard, New Rochelle.
Admission is free.
Following the theme of the beloved Christmas Carol, and taking full advantage of the unique date
(12.12.12) the show will feature select categories in Design as well as in Horticulture. Come discover
mantles, door designs, miniatures and more, from “Colly Birds” to “Lords a Leaping”.
It’s a wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit. Entries will be judged prior to show opening; come
see the award-winning designs! Flower Show Chairman Cathie Behrend states: “A Standard Show
is a marvelous way to see the current trends in floral design. Our members spend enormous time
preparing their creations, as a strict set of guidelines exists for each category. It is amazing to see
the different interpretations of the same theme.”
Founded in 1911, The Garden Club of New Rochelle strives to increase interest in the art of
gardening, flower arranging, conservation, and to encourage civic beautification. In addition to annual
Standard Flower Shows, the club organizes biennial Flower Garden Tours tours throughout the city.
Civic beautification projects include The Shakespeare Garden in Davenport Park, Huguenot
Children’s Library, and Veterans’ Memorials.
Also on Wednesday, Club members will bring colorfully decorated holiday baskets filled with small
gifts and fresh greenery, to be given to the Visiting Nurse Service for distribution to their patients.
Two weeks ago, Club Members decorated green holiday wreaths which were distributed to local
libraries, senior citizen centers, shelters, day nurseries and the Montrose Veterans Hospital.
The Club is always looking for new members, and those interested should contact via email:
