Port Chester is in the process of observing the official, and one and only Rosie Veltri Westchester Teen Idol Day.
The village government proclaimed the dayto honor the Port Chester High School student who won the Westchester Teen Idol contest in November. She competed with 25 finalists chosen from more than 100 entrants. Her mother, Mary Anne, is a secretary in the mayor’s office.
Veltri (at left) sang “God Bless America” at the start of last night’s village board meeting. She offered the song in memory of the children killed in Friday’s massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
Mayor Dennis Pilla called her a role model. “Her dedicating (the song) to Sandy Hook just shows what a wonderful person she is,” he said.
