New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson praised Baltimore Raven Ray Rice – who grew up in New Rochelle – as a “great role model” today, as the city plans local celebrations for the athlete whose team won Sunday’s Superbowl.
City spokeswoman Kathy Gilwit said the local events will take place perhaps in two weeks to give Baltimore dibs on celebrating.
Here’s Bramson’s statement:
“Ray’s talent on the field is matched by his strength of character off the field. In addition to being a great role model for youngsters, Ray has also contributed his time and energy to countless programs in New Rochelle. We are very proud of all that Ray has achieved, and are looking forward to celebrating the terrific season and now Super Bowl victory of our hometown hero.”
Gilwit said the local celebrations will be planned with the city school district, youth tackle league and other organizations.
The Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 in the Superbowl.
