Here’s news from Molly Spillane’s:
Inspired by the Leary Firefighters Foundation, Molly Spillane’s, in association with event sponsor Guinness® Beer, will hold a month-long fundraising event at the popular Mamaroneck restaurant and pub. The promotion will include a Guest Bartender Night featuring members of
the all volunteer Mamaroneck Fire Department and a month of donations exclusively for the benefit of the all volunteer Mamaroneck Fire Department. Guinness® Beer has also teamed up with the Leary Firefighters Foundation and has pledged a $100,000 donation to the organization for its work benefitting firefighters and their families.
For the entire month of March, customers can purchase a fireman’s helmet pin, supplied by Guinness® Beer, at Molly Spillane’s Pub for an open donation amount. There is no suggested price customers are simply requested to donate what they wish. There will also be a special
line on each customer’s bill providing them the option of a donation. 100% of these proceeds will go directly to the Mamaroneck Fire Department.
In addition, on Thursday, February 28, starting at 7pm, Molly Spillane’s Pub will welcome all Mamaroneck Volunteer Firefighters to come in and enjoy time behind the bar as a guest Bartender. Rescue Me star James McCaffrey is scheduled to attend, as is Mamaroneck Mayor Norman Rosenblum, members of the Board of Trustees and other invited dignitaries.
“This is a great way for Molly Spillane’s Pub to show our support for those who serve our local community as volunteer firemen,” said Molly Spillane’s proprietor Mike Hynes. “It’s also an excellent opportunity for us to introduce the firefighters to the customers of Molly Spillane’s as they serve as guest bartenders.”
Guinness® has been a supporter of firefighters and their departments and the beer is a customer favorite at Spillane’s, so it is fitting that the company will sponsor this month-long effort to raise funds for the 128 years old Mamaroneck Fire Department. The local effort at Spillane’s is being conducted concurrently with a national campaign in which Guinness® will donate $100,000 to the Leary Foundation, an organization founded in 2000 by actor DDenis Leary to bridge the gap between public funding and the needs of firefighters and their families so they have the best available equipment and training to meet the extraordinary challenges of their often perilous work.
“Firefighters demonstrate a selfless commitment to protecting the lives of the American people day in and day out,” said Doug Campbell, GUINNESS® Brand Director. “These men and women are undoubtedly made of more and we’re excited to celebrate them with a beer that is made of more.”
The Leary Firefighters Foundation was founded in response to what would be named “the perfect fire” in Worcester, Massachusetts, Denis’ hometown, in December of 1999. The blaze broke out in an abandoned warehouse in downtown Worcester with over 75 firefighters
responding, six of whom never returned. For 128 years, the all volunteer Mamaroneck Fire Department has provided residents of the
Village of Mamaroneck with fire protection. The five fire companies: Hook & Ladder Co., No.1, Mamaro Engine & Hose Co. No.1, Columbia Engine & Hose Co. No.2, Volunteers Engine & Hose Co. No.3, and Halstead Manor Engine & Hose Co. No.4 operate out of four fire stations
with more than 200 volunteers.
The Mamaroneck Fire Department operates with five engines, two aerial trucks, two utility trucks, three chief’s vehicles, and one fire boat. The department responds to approximately 800 fire emergencies a year.
“For a local business to come to us with an idea of how they can raise money for the localvolunteer fire department is amazing in itself,” said Mamaroneck Fire Chief Chris Szymanowski.
“From the moment Molly’s opened in Mamaroneck, they were looking to help, and work with the fire department. It’s great for the Fire Department to know it has such a strong supporter in the local business community.“
“It’s also great that such a large company as Guinness would take the time to care about a small community volunteer fire department,” added Szymanowski.
Molly Spillane’s Pub has established itself as a pillar of the Mamaroneck community since it opened on Mamaroneck Avenue in 2009. The restaurant and Irish pub sponsors the Sound Shore St. Patrick’s Day Parade and is a supporter of dozens of popular community events and
causes, including the annual toy drive in conjunction with the Mamaroneck Fire Department.
