Here’s news from At Home on the Sound, a non-profit organization that provides programs, services, and transportation to enable older residents in Larchmont and Mamaroneck to live confidently in their own homes as they age:
A large crowd braved chilly weather and gathered at the Town of Mamaroneck Senior Center on April 2 to celebrate the opening and dedication of the Valerie O’Keeffe Bocce Court. At Home on the Sound commissioned the court to honor Ms. O’Keeffe for her persistent commitment to enhancing the lives of senior citizens in the town as well as her enthusiasm and encouragement during the formation of At Home on the Sound.
With generous support and assistance from the Town of Mamaroneck, the bocce court was completed on the grounds of the Town of Mamaroneck Senior Center, 1288 Boston Post Road in Larchmont to be used by the Senior Center members (ages 60 and up). The Senior Center is open weekdays 10:30am – 3:30pm. A complimentary membership to the Town Senior Center is included with membership to At Home on the Sound.
Congressman Eliot Engel; NYS Assemblyman Steve Otis; Rev. Dr. William Crawford of Larchmont Avenue Church; and Nancy Seligson, Mamaroneck Town Supervisor were among the dignitaries and elected officials on hand to celebrate the court opening and congratulate Ms. O’Keeffe who served as Mamaroneck Town Supervisor for twelve years. The Town of Mamaroneck crew responsible for building the beautiful court received a hearty ovation from the crowd. After a quick bocce lesson, Ms. O’Keeffe and At Home on the Sound board president Lynn Reichgott played one match, and then many on hand for the festivities wasted no time in playing as well. Attendees enjoyed refreshments in the Senior Center after the ceremony.
