Here’s a joint notice from the Town of Mamaroneck and the Mamaroneck School District:
The Weaver Street Bridge over I-95 (Weaver Street and Harmon Drive by the Girs Scout House) is scheduled to close for repairs on or about June 3, 2013.
The New York State Department of Transportation’s (NYSDOT) original start date was in March, but the Town objected and theState has reconsidered.Realizing that closure of this main crossway while school is in session will cause significant disruption, the Mamaroneck School District and the Town worked together closely to urge the NYSDOT to allow pedestrians access across the bridge. Earlier today the Town received word that the NYSDOT has agreed to establish a pedestrian walkway over the bridge through June 23, 2013.
While we are pleased that the NYSDOT has accomodated our request to maintain pedestrian access through the remainder of the school year, we plan to study all issues related to the impact of this project, including increased traffic on alternative routes, acknowledgement of the extra time required for students to get to school, re-design of bus transportation routes (e.g. pick up and drop off times) and all other related safety issues.
The Town and the School District will continue to work together to finalize the plans. In the meantime, we wanted to reach out to you with the current information.
