The New York Blood Center-sponsored event will be held at the Rye Brook Fire Department at 940 King St.
“He dedicated his life to helping others and, since the time he was old enough, had donated blood at every fire department blood drive that was held,” Melillo’s family said of him.
Melillo, a lifelong Port Chester resident, served as a Port Chester firefighter and as an EMT with Harrison EMS as well as Empress. He died Oct. 21 while on medical leave several weeks after being injured in a head-to-head collision during a football game in New Jersey. He was captain of the Westchester Vengeance, a semi-pro team. The collision left him with a severe concussion and neck fractures. Melillo’s death came just a few days before he was slated for surgery. Melillo is interred at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Rye Brook.
