Now that we finally here… the quarterfinal round of the 2013 Section 1 softball playoffs, here’s a look at how I believe the Class B quarterfinals are going to go:
No. 8 Rye Neck at No. 1 Lourdes: Lourdes has, in a semi similar fashion to Fishkill, have been putting a hurt on a lot of teams. Taylor Sartori is a really good pitcher***. Chloe Weekes, Rebecca Sparks, and the rest of the team have been playing well and hitting the cover off of the ball. I really like Rye Neck’s chances in this game for a lot of reasons. Diana King has really come into her own as a pitcher. Nickole Morgan has been great at the plate. Coach Joan Spedafino will have these girls ready to go. Prediction: Lourdes over Rye Neck by at least one to two runs. Next up: The winner of No. 5 Ardsley at No. 4 Dobbs Ferry in the semifinals.
No. 5 Ardsley at No. 4 Dobbs Ferry: I like this matchup ALOT. This is a classic match up especially since these two teams saw each other earlier in the season when they faced each other earlier in the month at Ardsley’s tournament. Cassidy Wooten, Raina Gorman, and company have done really well this year and the Panthers will be in this game. I just think that the Eagles led by the Abbatiello sisters of Alison and Andrea will be a bit too much for the Panthers to handle. Prediction: Dobbs Ferry over Ardsley. Next up: The winner of No. 8 Rye Neck and No. 1 Lourdes in the semifinals
No. 6 Kennedy at No. 3 Westlake: This is a very good matchup as well. The Wildcats have played well all year and got some really good wins over tough teams including Rye Neck so they are legit. Bianca Cevallos, Antonia Valoroso played very well against Pleasantville. Christina Rizzo and company really went out and earned this NNo. 3 seed this year. I do like the brand of softball that the Gaels have been playing this year. Rachel Entiwistle, Kaela Fields and company have played well this year and some tough competition as well. Prediction: Westlake over Kennedy. Next up: No. 2 Valhalla in the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
BREAKING (12:37 p.m.): Word just came in from Valhalla coach John Hayes, that the No. 10 Briarcliff Bears officially forfeit the quarterfinal game. I have inquiries into the Briarcliff AD for an official statement.
***CORRECTION: My personal apologies for the gaff here. It was brought to my attention that Taylor Santori is not the Lourdes pitcher and it’s Meghan Meyers.
