NEW ROCHELLE’S GRAND MARKET TO CELEBRATE
MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH MINI-FIESTA
Fiesta to be the first of the popular Downtown BID Family Days for the 2013-2014 school year
As a warm-up to Mexican Independence Day on Saturday, September 14th, the first BID Family Day for the 2012-2013 season will transform the weekly BID Grand Market into a mini-fiesta of dance, music, food and crafts. The free event will be held on Library Green, at Lawton and Huguenot Streets, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The Market opens at 9:00 am.
At 11:00 the acclaimed costumed dancers of the Mazarte Dance Company will perform original dance movements that are true to the essence of old Mexican traditions. Mazarte performs extensively in the New York area, creating a union between dance, research, and indigenous art while promoting Mexican cultural heritage. The BID Family Day staff of teachers and teen assistants will provide a wide array of craft activities, including miniature piñatas, tiles, paper flowers and other projects.
The event continues to the series of BID Family Days Go Global for New Rochelle’s 325th Anniversary, which is organized through a partnership of the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District (BID), Public Library, City School District, and Parks and Recreation.
In the event of rain, activities will be held in the library’s theater and meeting room.
