Ron Williams, the president of the New Rochelle NAACP, endorsed Republican Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino in his bid for reelection Thursday, praising him for his, “fiscal stewardship, his clear compassion for people in need and for his ability to listen.”
In making the endorsement, Williams, who endorsed as an individual and not for the NAACP, passed over the mayor of New Rochelle, Astorino’s Democratic opponent Noam Bramson.
Of Astorino, he said: “I was particularly impressed by his leadership in helping keep the Oasis shelter and the Family Court in New Rochelle open. When I went to New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson about these issues, he was disinterested and unsympathetic. Westchester County is best served by a leader who understands that safe communities, excellent schools, and good paying jobs are all derived from a steady, responsible leader with the right values.”
The Astorino campaign touted the endorsement as another addition to “Democrats for Astorino.” Astorino has gained the endorsements of Assemblyman Ronald Tocci, D-New Rochelle; Mount Vernon Councilwoman Deborah Reynolds; the Rev. W. Franklyn Richardson, the pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Mount Vernon and Bishop C. Nathan Edwers, pastor of Friendship Worship Center in Mount Vernon.
