Though official numbers won’t be released until at least next week, Westchester Legislator Jim Maisano said he is confident he won a write-in challenge to the Independence Party endorsed candidate in Tuesday’s primary in District 11 in Pelham and New Rochelle.
More than 100 of his supporters went to the polls, while Stavros Pantelis, the Democrat who got the Independence Party endorsement, received 19 votes with his name on the ballot.
“The best we can see right now it was a pretty strong win,” Maisano said.
The Independence Party endorsed Democrats in all of the competitive races for Westchester Board of Legislators. Nine Republicans waged write-in campaigns to try to take the line.
In District 2 in northeast Westchester, Legislator Peter Harckham received 156 votes and he said there were 102 write-ins. A few absentees must also be counted.
“The people of the Independence Party defended their endorsement,” he said.
