Port Chester High School Chess Club • 10.28.10
Josh Tenzer, a first-year Special Education Math Teacher, looks on as members of the Chess Club compete, Oct. 20, 2010 in the Port Chester High School library. Tenzer started the club because he believes playing chess can directly contribute to a student’s academic performance. “It makes students smarter by having them think and plan ahead. Students should always think about their next two moves.” He also feels the club builds friendships, school spirit and good sportsmanship. College Reps visit New Rochelle High School • 10.21.10
Matthew Clark, the undergraduate admissions assistant director with the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, talks to students, Oct. 19, 2010 at the College and Career Center in New Rochelle. This time of the year college representatives come to New Rochelle High School for an information session with seniors. They discuss the admissions process and what the school has to offer and it gives interested students an opportunity to make a contact and ask questions. College and career coordinator Bonnie Proudian, center, says an advantage of the session is that they are more personal and the students can ask questions in a smaller setting compared to large groups on campus tours. Pelham Manor Crossing Guard Pat Piraneo • 09.28.10
Crossing guard Pat Piraneo guides students and parents walking to Siwanoy Elementary School, Sept. 23, 2010 in Pelham Manor. Piraneo, who works for the Pelham Manor Police Station, has been crossing students at the intersection of Esplanade and Wolf’s Lane for about 12 years.
