Opera fundraiser set for At Home on the Sound • 09.14.10
At Home on the Sound, a Larchmont/Mamaroneck-based non-profit that helps seniors remain in their homes as they age, is having its first big fundraiser, an Opera-in-Concert, on Oct. 3 at the Larchmont Avenue Church. The Opera Company of Brooklyn will be performing The Barber of Seville. The performance, which starts at 3:30 p.m., costs $35 per ticket ($30 for At Home members). The fundraiser will also include private luncheons before the performance.
From the announcement: “Founded in 2000, the OCB is known for taking its performances out of the traditional opera house, into more intimate settings. The troupe has performed in guests’ living rooms, Manhattan penthouses, and even at Fulton Ferry Landing…. Freeing the performance from the traditional venue is just part of the company’s goal to make opera more accessible and affordable to a wider and often younger audience. There is no elaborate staging, and the costumes are modern dress. The opera-in-concert that remains focuses entirely on the music, the performers and their rapport with the audience.”
In exchange for an annual membership fee, At Home on the Sound offers transportation to and from appointments, home maintenance, computer help and other services to the some 7,000 seniors living in Larchmont/Mamaroneck.
