(more…)Pelham students Light it Up Blue • 03.31.11
A Pelham Middle School student has written a song to raise awareness for autism. It was commissioned by the organization Autism Speaks, which is one of the leaders of Autism Awareness Day on Saturday.
Owen Saunders, a sixth-grader, composed the music and melody for “Light it Up Blue” in November. His mother, who works in the music business, wrote the lyrics. At the beginning of this year, Saunders, his brother, Wyatt, and a bunch of other Pelham students recorded tune. Watch a video here. (Look for the “Introduction Video” heading in the lower right of the page.) That’s Pelham’s Harriet Palmer, in seventh grade, singing the opening lines.
A full account of the story will appear in tomorrow’s Journal News. Meantime, set your DVRs for about 8:40 a.m., when the kids will appear on WPIX to perform their song.

Live from Stram Land, New Rochelle • 03.09.11
If you’re itching for live, local music tonight but don’t really want to brave the elements (it’s still winter; there’s no shame in staying indoors), consider directing your browser to www.jedluckless.tv at 8 o’clock tonight. Do that, and you’ll find the Jed Luckless Band streaming a live concert, complete with colored lights and fog, from the drummer’s basement in New Rochelle.
“This takes away all the dragging your friends out to a bar,” Eric Stramiello, the drummer, said.
Stramiello, a money manager at JPMorgan Chase by day who spends his nights rocking out in “Stram Land” (that’s what he calls his basement studio), said the band’s repertoire is heavy on Phish, the Grateful Dead and all things jammy.
He and the other members, who live in Nyack and Yonkers, all play in other bands. This one, Stramiello said, is just getting off the ground. And they’re having fun.
As a bonus to viewers, the band is giving away a pair of tickets to see Furthur, which features most of the surviving members of the Grateful Dead, at Radio City Music Hall, in New York City, at the end of the month.
“Whoever wins the tickets can party with us before the show,” Stramiello said.
Tonight’s show starts at 8 p.m.
