One more treat for Giants fans: Justin Tuck • 02.08.12
Here’s a shot from Tuesday’s parade I took and, until, now, had no idea I had. That’s defensive end Justin Tuck holding the Giants’ Super Bowl trophy. Also on the float, but only partially visible in this shot, are Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Giants quarterback Eli Manning. You can read my account of the parade here.
Heading to the Giants parade tomorrow? Let me know • 02.06.12
UPDATE: I’ll be on the 8:43 from White Plains, due in Grand Central at 9:23. If you’re on the same train and going to the parade, let’s talk Giants!
Looks like I’ll be riding a train into NYC tomorrow morning to cover the Giants parade. If you’re among the Giants fanatics who will be doing the same, let me know what train you plan to take (I’m not sure yet whether I’ll take the Harlem or New Haven line) and where you plan to watch the parade. I’ll be looking to talk with folks from the area.

Wednesday’s regional final schedule • 06.07.11
To any of you who are coming out tomorrow to Nanuet High School to watch the regional finals, especially the Class AA game, you might want to continue reading the updated schedule:
Regional finals
at Nanuet
Class AA: John Jay-EF vs. Union Endicott (Section 4), 3:30 p.m.****
Class A: Pearl River vs. Elmira Free Academy (Section 4), 5:30 p.m.
The decision was made to move the start time of the Class AA game to 3:30 p.m. is because of the weather tomorrow. As you all have probably heard by now, the temperature is going to be through the roof. The temperature is going to be near 98 degrees early on in the day. According to the state law, if the Heat Index is 96 degrees or higher then the first game will be suspended. So the logic here is that if Tony Toronto and the host officials and Nanuet can push the start time back, the temperature will have gone down enough to play the first game.
Now with the Pearl River game, it shouldn’t effect the start time of the game. If it does, it shouldn’t be enough to effect the light situation.
If you want to know more about the heat index laws, you can find them on nysphsaa.org.
Can I have your attention, please? • 05.04.11
I would like to pass on word from the New Rochelle softball Coach Tim Collins about their game coming up on May 11.
The New Rochelle softball team will host Mamaroneck at 4:30 p.m. in their Cancer Awareness Pink Game. Their event last year “New Rochelle Bats Against Cancer” was successful and he encourages all of you to come out to support a worth wild cause.
Go to New Rochelle HS in one week and help support a worthy cause.
Pelham swim team spared • 04.06.11
A week after making waves by protesting, circulating petitions and appealing to school officials, Pelham Memorial High School’s varsity girls’ swim team has secured itself another year in the water.
District administrators had proposed that the team, which has 12 members, be cut from the athletic department as an attempt to reduce spending. It was the only varsity team they suggested dropping.
Facing elimination, the swimmers rallied, handing out “Save our swim team” bracelets in front of the school and reaching out to the media.
The team was spared, but not without some changes. One of two coaches will be dropped, and the team will now share pool time with Eastchester’s high school.
Those changes seemed to sit fine with the swimmers.
“It makes me proud to know that the Pelham School Board takes the time to listen to all students, teachers, coaches and parents,” Lissy Schauer, a junior on the team, wrote in a letter to the Board of Education. “THANK YOU for your dedication to our town.”
Meantime, the junior varsity cheerleading team will be absorbed by the varsity team. And instead of three junior varsity football coaches, there will now be two.
Elsewhere in the budget, funding for several nursing positions has been restored.
According to district spokeswoman Angela Cox, board members have directed Superintendent Dennis Lauro to find another $110,000 in cuts before the final budget is presented Monday night.

Salesian captures CHSAA title over Blessed Sacrament • 03.06.10
I photographed a very exciting, nail biting basketball game between Salesian and Blessed Sacrament for the CHSAA class B title Friday night at Fordham University. Salesian beat Blessed Sacrament 58-49.
