Larchmont-Mamaroneck Food Pantry goes green • 06.22.10
\From our guest blogger Lynda LaMonte Garmong:
This week the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force is replacing paper bags with durable reusable grocery bags for its clients. Not only is the move cost-effective and environmentally-friendly, but it also means less work for the volunteers who were double bagging paper bags twice a month for food distribution.
Larchmont dispatches: A summer read, and lots of beads • 06.14.10
Our guest blogger Lynda LaMonte Garmong was out on the town late last week in Larchmont and sent us these dispatches:
Thursday night was a good night to stock up on summer essentials. Anderson’s Book Shop and Pink on Palmer co-hosted a beach party for local shoppers. The summer shopping event included a visit by Lis Wiehl, a Fox New analyst, author and Larchmont mom, who was on hand to sign copies of her new thriller, Hand of Fate. It’s a fun read and the perfect beach book!
Also on Thursday I stopped by Tres Magnifique Fine Jewelers for opening day of the Chamilia Trunk Show, which ran through the weekend. The Chamilia collection includes hundreds of beads (everything from Disney characters to sports shapes to sophisticated glass beads) that can be used to create custom charm bracelets for all ages. I spent quite a bit of time creating my very own bracelet with owner Orly Bayev. Thankfully due to my penchant for purple, I was able to narrow my choices. I also took advantage of one of two special offers: buy six beads and get a free sterling bracelet. Or buy three beads and get the fourth free.
Lost Cat in Larchmont • 06.04.10
From our guest blogger Lynda LaMonte Garmong:
I received an interesting robo call this morning from “Find Toto.” It’s an alert system to help reunite pets with their owners. According to the message, my neighbor Bruce is looking for his Siamese cat named Buddy. If anyone happens to find him, call Bruce at 914-315-6859. In the meantime, if you lose your own pet or find someone else’s, visit http://findtoto.org/. What an innovative way to find lost pets!

If you’re looking for some good deals, head to Larchmont this week. The Sidewalk Sale is underway through Saturday. Ellie DeVito, owner of Love by Bella Fiora and a Larchmont Chamber of Commerce member, organized the event. Twenty stores are participating. Look for the white umbrellas and balloons.

Larchmont ceremony remembers fallen military • 06.02.10
Editor’s note: Here’s the first of two dispatches from Lynda LaMonte Garmong, our “unofficial mayor” and guest blogger for the Sound Shore area:
Saturday morning public officials, veterans, military personnel, firemen, policemen, and citizens gathered at the Memorial Wall in Larchmont to pay tribute to those who lost their lives during military service. As part of the ceremony American Legion Post 347’s Rifle Squad fired a three round salute.
Mamaroneck says: Chess Anyone? • 05.29.10
Our guest blogger Lynda LaMonte Garmong’s latest dispatch:
With the arrival of summer weather, the Town of Mamaroneck set up an outdoor chess table in Memorial Park. Contemplate your next move under the shade of big oak trees while communing with nature. The chess table is located at the entrance of Memorial Park by North Chatsworth Avenue, Larchmont.
Larchmont: The Parade Must Go On! • 05.28.10
A roar of thunder and a single bolt of lightning were not enough to deter marchers and spectators from participating in Larchmont’s Annual Memorial Day Parade. Larchmont Police Chief John Poleway served as Grand Marshal and led the parade from the train station to the firehouse. Following behind were public officials, veterans, firemen, policemen, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and plenty of emergency vehicles. The biggest cheers of the evening went to our men and women in uniform.
Larchmont locals lovin’ locals • 05.23.10
Here’s the latest post from our guest blogger Lynda LaMonte Garmong of Larchmont, who won our “unofficial mayor” contest earlier this spring:
Larchmont business owners are known to support their neighboring businesses. Here Renee Powell, owner of Pascal’s Restaurant and Michou, chows down on one of Chatsworth Deli & Bakery’s generous sandwiches. Renee orders the same Reuben sandwich with thinly sliced corn beef and extra melted swiss cheese every single day! Looks like she’s a big fan!
Max the Labrador needs a new Sound Shore home • 05.18.10
Editor’s note: Lynda LaMonte Garmong is joining us as a guest blogger this spring; here’s her latest post:
Meet Max, a one and a half year old black Labrador Retriever looking for a home. Max was adopted as a puppy by a family with small children. They didn’t realize the responsibility of owning a dog and eventually had to return him to Pet Rescue. Max is currently in foster care with Liz Alfieri, owner of Larchmont Floral Designs. Liz is hoping that Max is adopted by a loving family with a large backyard. Max weighs around 75 pounds and is full of energy. He understands basic commands and needs an owner, preferably one experienced with labradors, to work with him on learning more. If you would like to meet Max, stop by Larchmont Floral Designs at 114 Chatsworth Avenue in Larchmont. Those interested in adopting Max should contact Pet Rescue at (914) 834-6955.
