Looks like I’ll be riding a train into NYC tomorrow morning to cover the Giants parade. If you’re among the Giants fanatics who will be doing the same, let me know what train you plan to take (I’m not sure yet whether I’ll take the Harlem or New Haven line) and where you plan to watch the parade. I’ll be looking to talk with folks from the area.

Free Westchester Tax Hotline Saturday • 02.18.11
The Westchester Chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, in cooperation with the Westchester County Business Journal, will host an annual tax hotline from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Westchester residents with tax questions can reach a CPA for free help by calling 914-358-0754.
Incorporated in 1897, the NYSSCPA is the oldest state accounting organization in the nation and today represents nearly 27,000 CPAs. The Westchester Chapter was chartered in 1954.
New Rochelle’s Maisano named county board minority leader • 12.30.09
Westchester County Legislator James Maisano, R-New-Rochelle, will become the minority leader of the Board of Legislators in the new year, the GOP caucus announced this week.
Maisano, a lawyer, represents about half of New Rochelle and all of Pelham. He’ll begin his seventh two year term on the board on Friday.
“The Republican caucus is committed to reforming county government by promoting initiatives to reduce spending, lower taxes and consolidate operations, “ he said in a statement. “We look forward to working in a bipartisan way to improve the quality of life in Westchester.”
There are four GOP members on the 17-member board. Maisano takes over from George Oros, who is becoming Chief of Staff to new county executive Rob Astorino.
Furniture drive nets big haul in New Rochelle • 10.20.09
The Furniture Sharehouse, a county-led furniture recycling drive, sent us some pictures of their recent furniture drive at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle. Over 200 items of gently-used furniture were collected from over 50 donors for redistribution free of charge directly to needy Westchester families.

the drive:

From the official press release: Furniture Sharehouse provides gently-used free furniture to families moving out of homeless shelters, escaping domestic violence, or recovering from natural or personal disasters. Families are referred by member agencies to ensure that the furniture goes directly to those who need it most. Since opening in April 2007, it has provided 640 families, over 1,700 individuals,
including 750 children, with over 6,200 items of furniture worth over $438,000 that they could never have afforded to purchase.
A second Fall Furniture Drive will be held in at the North Castle Town Hall this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. “Basic furniture items, including mattresses/box springs, tables and chairs, dressers, occasional tables, rugs and lamps are needed.” Donation guidelines are at www.furnituresharehouse.org.
